This document describes the function of the SKU 'scan' toggle, available in E-WMS (WMSclient) when issuing SKUs.
WMS uses the 'Scan' toggle on the scanning screen to determine how an issue is handled after scanning a SKU number: issue the whole SKU, or enter the quantity that is issued from the SKU:
When set to 'SKU', then input of quantity is skipped (unless scanner setting 'Focus to next field' is enabled), assuming the whole SKU is issued. When set to 'Units', then input of quantity is always required, assuming issuing part of the SKU.
Guided processes In 'guided' advice processes, where WMS already generates a picking advice, WMS presets this 'Scan' toggle to 'SKU' or to 'Sales units', based on the generated advice ('Scan unit'). When this advice line is selected on the scanner, the Scan toggle is adjusted accordingly, resulting in entering the quantity picked from a SKU, or not.
An example of a picking advice having both types of scan units::
This is how this looks on the scanner, when scanning these advice lines:
This behavior also depends on following scanner settings:
Free scan processes In free scanning processes, the default value for the Scan toggle always was 'SKU' until release 408. This means, when you scanned a SKU in for example WMS Stock Transactions (scanner menu Transactions/Stock transactions/Issue), the whole SKU could already be issued after this scan, while in fact you wanted to issue just part of the SKU.
To avoid this, you first would have to adjust (press) the SKU scan toggle, to switch from 'SKU' to 'Units'.
From release 409, you are able to configure what default unit is to be applied (in free scan processes) as 'Scan toggle': SKU or Units. This can be configured in the scanner settings for Transfers, Stock Transactions and Production issues. This way, you could leave the default to 'SKU' for Transfer, but apply default 'Units' in Stock Transactions, and when desired, different per scanner.
Transfers
When transferring a SKU, and setting the scan toggle to 'units', you indicate that you are transferring sales units, and not the SKU. When you transfer the total SKU quantity while the toggle is set to 'units', the SKU number is removed from the target stock (no SKU number on the target location).
