E-WMS - prefill quantity scan field with advised quantity

Introduction

This document describes the workings of the E-WMS ASP functionality to prefill the quantity to be picked, with the advised quantity, as available from product update 411. 

Description

When picking orders using E-WMS and a guided picking list, the quantity to be picked is shown as information on the scanner, but you have to enter that quantity manually to confirm that you are really picking the required quantity:

Availability

This new functionality is available for following licenses and modules, when using communication method 'Scanner - ASP':

• SE1380 E-WMS I: sales order fulfilment
• SE1386 E-WMS Lite: sales order fulfilment
• SE1381 E-WMS II: replenishment and pick&pack
• SE4250 E-WMS Production: guided production issues 

Configuration

To enable this new functionality, the selection option 'Advice' has been added to the existing scanner setting 'Quantity/Display which value'.    

This can be configured in the scanner settings for the mentioned modules:

• menu System, E-WMS, Scanners, Sales order fulfilment  settings
• menu System, E-WMS, Scanners, Replenishment settings
• menu System, E-WMS, Scanners, Production issues settings

Usage

When the scanner setting 'Quantity/Display which value' is set to 'Advice', then the quantity field will be prefilled with the advised quantity, minus the quantity already picked, except in following scenarios:

• you scanned a GS1-128 barcode or HIBC barcode containing a quantity, and the scan code setting 'Ignore barcode quantity' is not enabled. In that case, the quantity from the barcode is prefilled (as it would be in earlier releases)
  
• you scanned a SKU number. In that case, the quantity to be prefilled is determined by following logic:
  • when the SKU stock quantity is more than the quantity to be picked: the advised quantity is prefilled (since you pick that quantity from that SKU)
  • when the SKU stock quantity is less than or equal to the quantity to be picked: the SKU stock quantity is prefilled (since you pick the full SKU) 

Points of attention

• Since E-WMS only supports quantities up to 3 decimals (0,306 kg): the prefilled advised quantity will be rounded (not: truncated) to 3 decimals
   
• This functionality does not skip input of quantity. You still have to confirm the suggested quantity. Skipping quantities could be achieved by using 'pivot point', GS1-128/HIBC barcode scanning, or scanning SKUs, in combination with the setting 'focus to next field'.
   
• You cannot combine usage of pivot point (scanning item code=1 picked) and this new functionality. When you try to configure this in scanner settings, you will see error "Invalid combination: Pivot point quantity / Quantity: Display which value?=Advice".
   
• Pre-filling the quantity will not work in combination with specific E-WMS advice settings; and will show an error or a warning when saving the scanner settings.
   
  1. You will see this error:
     
        
     
     when the module setting 'Picking advice' is disabled (picking without a calculated advice), and at the same time, having scanner stock validations enabled.
     Scanner stock validations are enabled when one or more of following settings are enabled:
     • 'Enable ASP stock check' (WMS General settings)
     • Directed Put-Away (WMS General settings)
     • Rejection reasons (WMS General settings)
     • SKU Management  (SKU Management settings)
        
  2. You will see this warning:
     
     

  
  when the WMS advice setting 'Apply batch advice policy' is disabled and 'picking advice' enabled, and scanner stock validations are enabled.
