Overview of VAT return boxes

Introduction

The tax authority will determine the classification of a value-added tax (VAT) declaration form. Based on this classification, VAT return boxes will be included in the form for you to fill in the tax amount. Once created, you can maintain the description of the VAT return box or link the VAT return box to other return boxes with different types.

The VAT return boxes screen can be accessed via System ➔ General ➔ Countries ➔ Tax codes, and then opening an existing VAT code, and clicking under the VAT boxes tab. Next, click , and the screen will be displayed.

In this screen, you can view a list of VAT return boxes created in the system. You can then link the selected VAT return box to a VAT code or create another VAT return box.

You can also filter the VAT return boxes that you want to display by defining one or more criteria. The VAT return boxes that match the criteria you have defined are then displayed.

What version are you using?

The information in this document is applicable to product update 407. If you have versions lower than this, certain features explained here will not be applicable.

How do I create VAT return boxes?

In the VAT return boxes screen, click New. A maintenance screen will be displayed.
In this screen, define the relevant details.
Click Save.

How do I filter the search for the VAT return boxes?

In the VAT return boxes screen, define the required fields.
Click Search.

Fields

Search

Click this to search for the VAT return boxes based on the defined criteria.

Clear

Click this to clear the defined criteria.

Rows

Type the number of rows to be displayed for each page. If you have set the default number of rows to “50”, then 50 rows will be displayed. If more than 50 rows are listed, the Previous and Next buttons are displayed.

Click this to return to the previous page of VAT return boxes.

Click this to go to the next page of VAT return boxes.

Filter

Select starts with or contains to search for the VAT return boxes that start with or contain the characters (letters, digits, or a combination of both) defined at Return boxes or Description.

Return boxes

Type a full or partial code to display the VAT return boxes that match the defined code.

Type

Select this to display the VAT return boxes with the selected type in the overview. The options available are:

VAT to pay
Purchase basis
VAT to claim
Extra duty to pay
Total
Credit note extra duty to pay
Sales basis
Credit note purchase basis
Credit note sales basis
Credit note VAT to pay
Credit note VAT to claim

Description

Type a full or partial description to display the VAT return boxes that match the defined description.

Exclude from VAT return

Select Yes to display the VAT return boxes defined to be excluded from the calculation for the VAT return amount or No to display VAT return boxes defined to be included in the calculation for the VAT return amount. Alternatively, select All to display all the VAT return boxes regardless of whether the VAT return boxes are excluded or included in the calculation for the VAT return amount.

Excl. from total in VAT Overview

Select this check box to exclude the transactions of the VAT return boxes from the total VAT amount.

VAT return type

Select one of the options to define the VAT return type of the VAT return boxes.

The options available are:

Goods
Services
Investment
N/A

Note: This field is only applicable to, and can be edited, for existing Purchase basis and VAT to pay VAT return types. This field is disabled and displays the N/A value when creating a VAT box.
