Select File storage to store the attachments in an external file location, or SQL storage to store the attachments in the SQL server.
You can choose to save the timeline attachments in the database, or you can choose to save the timeline attachments at a specified file storage location. Saving the attachments on a file storage location will avoid exponential growth of your database.
If File storage is selected, the Username, Domain, Password, and File path must be defined. The attachments of the timeline will be stored in an external file location that you have defined. Since the attachments will no longer be stored in the database, it is recommended to protect the external file storage location to make sure it can only be accessed by Exact Synergy Enterprise.
Also, it is very important to include a backup of the external file storage location in your backup routines and procedures.
This section is available only if File storage at Storage mode is selected. In the file storage, sub-folders will be created for storing the attachments whereby a four-level directory will be created based on the first four characters of the file name. For example, if the file name is “55540727-9db8-4d34-b239-fb76cd442d87_cat.jpg”, the file will be saved under the directory “<user’s selected folder> / 5 / 5 / 5 / 4 / <file>” whereby the file name will be based on <attachment id>_<original file name>. The files will be encrypted in the folders. Once you have selected File storage, you will not be able to change the storage mode to SQL storage (the Storage mode field will be disabled) but you can still update the login details. However, if the login password has been changed in the specified domain, the administrator also has to update the password on the Attachment settings page. Otherwise, the uploading and retrieval of the attachments will not work after the IIS server is restarted. If you want to change the file path, you have to manually copy the existing files from the old file location to the new file location because if the files are not copied to the new file location, the feeds on the timeline will be displayed correctly but the attachments will not be displayed.
