Manufacturing ➔ Setup ➔ Operations
In this screen, you can create an operation or modify the details of an existing operation.
Operations are smaller breakdowns of processes that take place in the production floor to produce the finish goods. When creating operations, you must specify either a machine or labor hour unless you are creating an operation to be used for outsourcing purposes.
Keep in mind: This screen can only be accessed if the Operations check box is selected at System ? General ? Settings, under Manufacturing settings.
The information in this document is applicable to product update 406 and higher. If you have versions lower than this, certain features explained here will not be applicable.
Keep in mind: All fields with the "!" icon are mandatory.
Type or select a document layout for the operation slip. Document layouts are maintained at System ? General ? Settings, under Documents settings.
Select this check box to block the operation from being selected in the bill of materials (BOM) and production order entry. By default, the check box is not selected.
Select this check box to enable printing of the operation slip together with the production order. If the check box is selected but the Layout field is blank, then the system will print the operation slip according to the default layout defined in the Operation field at System ? General ? Settings, under Documents settings.
To maintain instructions for the operation, click , and then type the instruction. Click OK to save the instruction. You can define only one instruction for each operation.
Type or select an outsourced item in order to create an operation to be used for outsourcing purposes.
Type or select a work center for this operation, for which the machine hours are calculated.
Type or select a machine for this operation, for which the machine hours are calculated.
Type or select a machine hour for this operation.
Type or select the cost center for this operation for which the labor hours are calculated.
Type or select the person for this operation, for whom the labor hours are calculated.
Keep in mind: If a person is selected at Person, then only labor hours linked to the selected person can be selected. This is mandatory if Outsourced item or Machine hour is not specified.
Type or select the labor hour item for this operation. Keep in mind: If a person is selected in the Person field, then only labor hours linked to the selected person can be selected. This is mandatory if Outsourced item or Machine hour is not specified.
Type the operating time required for the machine hour and labor hour.
Type the ratio of labor hours required per machine hour, per operation.
Type or select the labor hours required to set up the operation. When the operation is copied to the BOM, the condition in the BOM will be Once Per Production.
Type the time required to set up the operation. When the operation is copied to the BOM, the condition in the BOM will be Once Per Production.
Fill in a number to define the maximum number of labors who can work on the job operation or the maximum number of machines that can operate in the work center at the same time.
Select Labour or Machine to indicate whether the sum of hours in job operations goes by labor or machine hours.
Select this check box to indicate this schedule as finite. Clear this check box if this is infinite.
Select the check box that corresponds to the shift that you want to link to this operation.
This column displays the code of the shift.
Fill in a number to define the maximum number of labors who can work on the job operation or the maximum number of machines that can operate in the work center at the same time. By default, the number is taken from the Scheduled resources field when the check box is selected in the Select column.
This column displays the calculated run time and cannot be edited. The calculation is done using this formula:
Scheduled resources x Sum of (Work hours for each shift - Scheduling break for each shift)
This field displays the code of the parent operation. This field is always disabled.
Keep in mind: The parent-child relationship can only be one level down.
Click this to add a child operation to the operation.
Keep in mind: The default operation, parent operation, and operation that acts as a child operation in another operation cannot be added.
Click this to remove a child operation from the operation.
This column displays the code of the child operation.
This column displays the description of the child operation.
Click this to save the entry.
Click this to create another operation. If changes have been made to the current operation, you will be asked if you want to save these changes before another operation can be created.
Click this to exit.
