What is E-WMS?
What is E-WMS?
Using E-WMS, as addition to Exact Globe Next, you can guide,
standardize and register the logistical process in your warehouse or
production hall.
Guide
For orders to pick, like sales orders, production
materials or stock replenishment orders (see below), E-WMS can generate an
intelligent and efficient picking list.
This picking list, or picking advice:
- is to a high degree configurable through settings, where factors like
product expiration date, type of location or current stock level can play a
major role
- can generate an optimal picking route for higher efficiency, and
optionally combined with different forms of picking collected orders
- can be assigned to a specific warehouse employee, for instance using
specific picking equipment
Standardize
The usage of E-WMS will be a basis in the logistical processes. Through this
standardization, the logistical processes will become transferable, controllable,
predictable and provide insight in the processes.
Register
- By using E-WMS software on a mobile device (hand
terminal) logistical actions in the warehouse are registered, optimally
using barcodes as much as possible for efficiency and precision.
- This registration is real-time; it is done as
part of the daily process of the warehouse employee, at the moment the
action takes place.
Next, scanned transactions which are marked as 'ready', need to be validated
and processed in the back-office. This can be done manually using E-WMS
'Control Centers' integrated in Exact Globe Next, when a 'manager role' is
required in the process. This step can also be done automatically by using
the E-WMS services. In that case, a manager role is only required in case of
error situations. When using the E-WMS services, a scanned transaction can
be processed in a matter of seconds.
- Precision: by using barcodes, which optimally
are present on warehouse locations, items or stock units, it is registered
unambiguously what has been done. This results in a high degree of accuracy,
less picking errors en higher stock reliability.
- Efficiency: barcodes can help to register
transactions as efficiently as possible, by using compound barcodes which
contain e.g. item code, batch number and quantity. This makes it possible to
register a transaction in one scan movement.
E-WMS knows two basic user interfaces: software on the mobile device, and
back-office screens integrated in Exact Globe Next. These back-office screens
can be divided into management screens (Control Centers) and reporting screens.
The control centers are intended to manage the workload on the mobile devices,
and to optionally authorize and process scanned transactions by a manager. As
pointed out earlier, this part can also be automated by using the E-WMS
services, both for automatically sending orders picking, and for automatic
processing of scanned transactions.
Processes
E-WMS supports following processes:
- Purchase orders: scanning of receipts for purchase orders. This can be
done 'guided' (list of orders to receive available on the hand terminal), or
'free'. This last option is mostly used when purchase orders are received
randomly, or not known during the actual receipt. Offers e.g. 'crossdocking'.
- Sales orders: scanning of picking items for sales order fulfillment.
This process is the most elaborate E-WMS process, allowing a high degree of
configuration. The process supports e.g. SSCC registration, an intelligent
picking advice for optimal efficiency, two-stage order packing, order
collecting and many more options.
- Counts: also 'guided' (employee has a scanning route) or 'free' (no
route on scanner)
- Stock transfers: location transfer or transfers between warehouses.
-
Stock transactions: stock issues or receipts, not directly related to
Exact Globe Next orders. These are in fact 'counts', but by scanning the
change in the stock, rather than confirming the actual stock balance. This
stock change can be accompanied by choosing a predefined 'reason' for the
stock change: like 'damage' or 'demo', or even optionally by providing a
project code or general ledger account code.
- Stock replenishment: this is an extra process in
addition to the known Exact Globe Next processes. Stock replenishment
provides the possibility to replenish your picking locations or second
warehouse periodically or real-time (in the same warehouse), based on needs
for orders to pick, or based on fixed minimum stock levels. In fact these
are guided stock transfer orders, but only the 'issue' is actually scanned.
- Production issues: registration of material
issues, with the option to work 'guided' (with a picking list and
intelligent picking advice as for sales orders picking), or 'free' (scan
material issues as they occur).
- Production Receipts: registration of
production receipt in the warehouse.
- E-Mobile sales (currently inactive):
registration of new sales orders on a mobile device, with the option to
start direct fulfillment after reading back the new order in the
back-office. Typical usage:
- Sales account manager registers new sales orders while visiting customers.
By using a Control Center or the E-WMS service, these orders are created as
new sales orders in Exact Globe Next.
- Point of Issue: at a desk, customers can order specific items, which are
next picked and scanned using E-WMS, where next the employee can start a
control center to also generate a delivery note and invoice to complete the
transaction.
- Purchase transactions: registration of new
purchase orders on a hand terminal. Typical use: employee walks along
shelves in warehouse or store, scans the items to be orders, and enters the
quantity. After read back, new purchase orders are created in Exact Globe
Next.
SKU Management is optional E-WMS functionality (except for last two
above mentioned modules), offering the possibility to create and use an extra
stock unit in the warehouse: the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit). This can be a pallet,
box, big bag or any other unit containing a specific quantity of single units.
This SKU will get a unique number ('license plate'), which can be used in E-WMS
scanning processes. In processes like stock transfers or order picking, one scan
suffices to complete the transaction, since all information about the stock is
already linked to the SKU number: location, item, batch number or serial
numbers, and quantity.
A SKU could also be seen as a 'mobile warehouse location'.
E-WMS Lite differs from E-WMS I, as it is intended for companies with
less complex warehouse situations. The main differences are the supported
logistical processes (Sales orders fulfillment, Purchase orders receipts and
Counts), the limited support of warehouse locations, and the limited number of
E-WMS settings allowing to configure the E-WMS processes. Less settings makes it
also less complex to implement E-WMS Lite.
E-WMS offers integration with labeling software 'BarTender'. This means
that labels can be printed automatically as part of an E-WMS process step.
