WMS: reinstalling CAB because of rebranding in 398 and 399
WMS documentation
Introduction
This document describes how to update the hand terminal CAB file for E-WMS,
when updating from 398 or earlier. Because of rebranding Pick-IT to E-WMS, there
are some points of attention.
Description
In product update 398 and 399, Pick-IT was
rebranded and renamed to E-WMS. One of the changes involves the folder names
used on a hand terminal, when using the CAB client. This requires
reinstallation of the CAB client as from product update 399. This document
shows the steps involved for this reinstallation.
Cold boot set
A cold boot set guarantees that on a
hard reset or cold boot of a device, all required software is installed
again, preferably with the right configuration (settings). This is done by
saving setup and configuration files in a special folder on a device, which is
not cleared when performing a cold boot. On Symbol/Motorola devices this is the
folder \Application, on LXE devices this is the folder \System. Everything
that is stored in that folder, is executed on cold boot startup.
Starting the automatic installation of the WMS (Pick-IT) CAB file can be done
by placing a registry file in the cold boot folder, or by using an Autoexec.bat
file. In the cold boot sets available on the
Exact FTP, the registry method is used for Symbol/Motorola devices, and the
Autoexec.bat method for LXE devices.
You can choose to change the current cold boot procedure on the device
for rebranding, or replace it with the latest cold boot sets from the
FTP. Changing the current cold boot set may be safer.
CAB file
The CAB file is downloaded with every Globe update since 398, it is available
in the folder C:\Program Files\Exact software\install\E-WMS. You may see 2 CAB
files here: Pickit.cab and E-WMS.CAB. Delete the file Pickit.cab, this was
downloaded only in Globe release 398. From release 399, the file is downloaded
as E-WMS.cab. Set the file to 'read-only', this prevents that the CAB file will
be deleted when manually installing on a hand terminal.
Updating Symbol/Motorola (e-wms.reg)
Following changes have to be made to for a Symbol/Motorola device:
- make sure all transactions are read back from the device (when not using
RF).
- copy the three DAT files in \Program files\Pickit to \Application\Pickit
(=backup of currently used settings)
- on the device, start Start/Settings/Control panel/Remove programs,
uninstall 'Pick-IT'
- rename the folder \Application\pickit to \Application\E-WMS or delete
the folder \Application\pickit and create a new folder \Application\E-WMS
- in the file \Application\e-wms.reg, change all references \Application\Pickit
to: \Application\E-WMS
(file name e-wms.reg or pickit.reg does not really matter, as long as
the references inside use the correct folders)
- in the file \Application\e-wms.cpy, change all references \Application\Pickit
to: \Application\E-WMS
and change all references to \program files\pickit to: \program files\e-wms.
- delete the file \Application\E-WMS\Pickit.cab
- copy the file E-WMS.CAB (see section 'CAB file') to
\Application\E-WMS
- on the device, start (double click) \Application\E-WMS\E-WMS.CAB,
install it to the default folder (make sure the CAB file is read-only before
installing this way)
- copy the three DAT files from \Application\E-WMS to \Program files\E-WMS
- Steps 8-10 can also be done by performing a cold boot after step 7. Then
you are also sure that a cold boot would restore WMS properly.
Updating LXE (Autoexec.bat)
- make sure all transactions are read back from the device (when not using
RF).
- copy the three DAT files in \Program files\Pickit to \System\Pickit
(=backup of currently used settings)
- on the device, start Start/Settings/Control panel/Remove programs,
uninstall 'Pick-IT'
- rename the folder \System\pickit to \System\E-WMS
- in the file \System\autoexec.bat, change all references \System\Pickit
to: \System\E-WMS
- delete the file \System\E-WMS\Pickit.cab
- copy the file E-WMS.CAB (see section 'CAB file') to \System\E-WMS
- on the device, start (double click) \System\E-WMS\E-WMS.CAB, install it
to the default folder (make sure the CAB file is read-only before installing
this way)
- copy the three DAT files from \System\E-WMS to \Program files\E-WMS
- Steps 7-9 can also be done by performing a cold boot after step 6. Then
you are also sure that a cold boot would restore WMS properly.
Finishing
Language
Next, the language has to configured correctly. That is required on every CAB
update. Please refer to
this document for the installation procedure of the language files.
Settings
When not using RF: export the hand terminal settings again to the device in
menu WMS, Send (batch communication), Send scanner settings.
Master data
When not using RF and when you validated item codes or scan codes on the
device, or you need supplier or debtor master data:
export the master data to the device in menu WMS, Send (batch communication),
Send item data and other menu's.
Test
Test picking and processing a sales order, scanning and processing a
transfer, etc.
General: updating old Pick-IT versions
When you are updating from a Pick-IT version with it's menu options in menu
Add-on, you also may need some additional SQL conversion scripts, to convert
Pick-IT master data to WMS, and to avoid having performance problems. Please
contact support in this case and refer to document
