How-to: Using Exact Exchange Migration tool

Introduction

The Exact Exchange Migration tool is used primarily to assist in migrating from one Microsoft Exchange server to another. Running this tool can transfer items in your Exchange server such as appointments to the other server.

The tool can be found in the Bin subfolder of the Exact Synergy Enterprise (ESE) installation folder. To start the tool, double click Exact.Exchange.Migration.Tool.exe.

Prerequisites and requirements

Exact Synergy Enterprise version 255 and above.

Description

Exchange section

Type

Select the type of setup your Microsoft Exchange is in.

If your Microsoft Exchange is set up in your own environment, then select On Premise. The following will be enabled:

  • Exchange Server URL field in the Exchange URL section.
  • Domain Account option and its corresponding fields in the Exchange Credential section.

If your Microsoft Exchange is hosted in a cloud environment, then select Hosted. The following will be enabled:

  • Auto Discovery field in the Exchange URL section.
  • Email option and its corresponding fields in the Exchange Credential section.

If you select Custom, any combination of the exchange service options can be selected and enabled. This is useful if you want to test the Microsoft Exchange connection.

Exchange Version

Select the corresponding Microsoft Exchange version that you want to migrate from.

Exchange URL section

Auto Discovery

Fill in the email address with the user credentials that will be used for the migration process in the Email field so the system can automatically determine the location of the Microsoft Exchange server.

This field is enabled when you select Hosted or Custom at Type.

Exchange Server URL

Fill in the URL of the Microsoft Exchange server where the migration process can connect to.

This field is enabled when you select On Premise or Custom at Type.

Azure Application for Exchange Online section

Application ID

Type the Application ID for the Exchange Online app.

Tenant ID

Type the Tenant ID for the Exchange Online app.

Client Secret

Type the Client Secret value for the Exchange Online app.

Exchange Credential section

Domain Account

Fill in the Domain, Username and Password fields with the user credentials that will be used for the migration process. Typically, this should be either the administrator or the fixed user account (created prior to the installation of the solution). Enable Use Impersonation option if you want someone else other than the administrator to perform the migration process.

These fields are enabled when you select On Premise or Custom at Type.

Email

Fill in the Email and Password fields with the user credentials that will be used for the migration process.

These fields are enabled when you select Hosted or Custom at Type.

Synergy section

Synergy URL

Type the URL of your Exact Synergy environment here.

Synergy Database Server

Type the address of your Exact Synergy database server here.

Synergy Database Name

Type the name of your Exact Synergy database here. Click Test Connection if you want to test the connection with your database. Make sure you have a valid Synergy folder to ensure a successful test.

Synergy Folder

Type the name of your Exact Synergy folder here.

Resource

Specify either the set or range of people you want to migrate. Click the All option to migrate all people in your database.

Execute section

Batch size

Type the number of events allowed in each call to Microsoft Exchange. This is useful to control server response times.

The buttons have the following functionalities:

  • Diagnose Synergy Appointment: By clicking this button, a list will be generated in the Status section that shows the appointment items for the selected people. It also contains information on whether the appointment item had already been successfully synchronised to Microsoft Exchange.
  • Diagnose SyncState: By clicking this button, the SyncState status of all the selected people will be listed. This functionality can also be used to test the connection of the exchange. The SyncState status acts like a timestamp of when the status was last updated.
  • Repair for Invalid SyncState: By clicking this button, corrupted SyncState values will be updated. This option is useful to fix corruption issues.
  • Update All SyncState: By clicking this button, the SyncState status for all the selected people, including all valid SyncState, will be updated.

Show not found only (For diagnose Synergy appointment)

Select this to list appointments that have not been successfully synchronised.

Status section

This section records actions that the tool carried out. This includes successful and error instances.

Each person's result is separated by the “--------------------------------” message.

All log errors will be indicated by the word “ERROR:” at the beginning of the message.

Copy to Clipboard

Click this to copy the messages in this section. You can then paste it to a text editor for further analysis.
