Introduction

Enhancements have been made to the way the system calculates the opening and closing balances in bank/cash journals and cash flow entries. The system will calculate the opening and closing balances based on the header date in the general journal and bank/cash journal entries.

What has been changed

The system will correctly calculate the opening and closing balances in the general journal, bank/cash journal, and cash flow entries based on the following:

When the general journal has a bank general ledger (GL) linked to a bank journal, then the opening and closing balances will be calculated based on the header date in the general journal and bank/cash journal entries as displayed in the example below.

• Create a bank GL. In this example the bank GL is 1100. Link this bank GL (that is linked to bank journal 20) to the general journal 90.
• Make a bank journal entry (entry number 10200001) for EUR 100.
• Make a general journal entry (entry number 10900001) for EUR 50.
• Make a bank journal entry (entry number 10200002) for EUR 200.

Results in bank entry:

**The general journal entry with amount 50 is taken into account despite it having a higher entry number.

However, the opening and closing balances will not be in sequence if the newer journal entry has an earlier date compared to the previous journal entry as displayedin the example below.

• Make a bank journal entry (entry number 80000001) for EUR 100, dated 01-01-2008.
• Make a bank journal entry (entry number 80000002) for EUR 50, dated 05-05-2008.
• Make a bank journal entry (entry number 80000003) for EUR 200, dated 03-03-2008.
