Introduction
This document describes the scanner settings for E-WMS
Production Issues, in menu System, E-WMS, Scanners,
Production issues settings. The screenshots and functionality is
based on product update 414.
Description
Once scanner settings are defined, these need to
be assigned to each device in menu System, E-WMS,
Scanners, Scanners.
You can use one general settings profile for all
devices, or you can set up specific profiles per individual device. Please also read document
General notes on scanner settings.
After selecting menu System,
E-WMS, Scanners, Production issues settings you can create a new
profile by pressing New, or edit an existing profile by using Open. You can only
delete profiles which are not linked to devices.

Section: Submenu
These settings are available from product update
408. You can disable one of the issues menus on the scanner. If both are
enabled, a submenu will first show on the scanner after selecting main menu
'Production, Issues'. When only one of these submenus is enabled, this submenu will be
immediately started when choosing main menu 'Production, Issues'.
When both submenus are disabled, you will see error message 'Please select at
least one of the options in section 'submenu''.
Section: General
Order list sorting
This setting is available from release
410
(WMS ASP only) and configures the sort order
of the production orders to be picked, in the order list in scanner menu
Production, Issues, Issues with list.
- Production order number: the default value
for this setting and the default sort order in release 409 and earlier.
- Warehouse: sorts the order list
by warehouse code and next on production order number.
- Moment of sending orders: sorts the order
list by sequence of sending the orders picking. This is defined by the
sequence in which orders are selected (multi-select using shift-click or
control-click) in the control center, and in general in chronological order
of sending picking.
Browse order lines
ASP and CAB. When enabled, a list of the advised material lines to pick will be shown first, after selecting an order. You have
to select a specific line from that list to start picking. This way you can
start with another item than otherwise default would be started with. The line browser
only shows once, after selecting the order. When the selected item is picked,
the first open line will automatically be presented. From product update 404
(WMSclient only),
the order line browser is also shown when using the
STOP button and choosing 'Skip advice line for now'.
Show picked lines
ASP and CAB (ActiveSync). When enabled, a list of
the picked lines shows after the order is picked. This list shows totals
per picked advice line (per location per item).
Allow additions
ASP and CAB.
When enabled, the 'Add' button will be enabled in guided production issues, and the order picker has the possibility to add items which were
not ordered.
To read back and still allow these additional lines, the setting 'Allow
additions' in the general settings
WMS
Production Issuing also has to be enabled. When this setting is disabled, the 'Add' button is
disabled on the scanner.
Advice mandatory
ASP and CAB. When enabled, the advised location, serial/batch or SKU number are
mandatory and cannot be changed.
When disabled, the order picker
is allowed to pick from another location, or pick another serial/batch number
or SKU number, after a warning message.
Also see document 'Advice
line switch'.
Show stock button
ASP only. Determines whether the hand terminal
user is allowed to view
item stock on the hand terminal. Before release 406, this setting was named
'RF: browse stock'.
Focus to
Applies to
ASP 'free' issue scanning only. Determines to what field you will return after an
issue line has been
scanned. You have following choices:
- Item code: returns focus to 'item code'.
Choose this option when you don't regular scan the same item from different
locations.
- Location: returns focus to 'location', for
the same item as in previous scan. Choose this option when you pick the
same item from different locations regularly.
When scanning serial/batch items, the focus always first returns to input of the
'S/B number' after completing a scan. When pressing the STOP button on input of
the S/B number, then this setting is applied.
Screen layout
ASP and WMSclient only, available from 404. Please read
this section for more information on 'screen layout'.
Default SKU scan mode
This setting is available per release
409 and applies to SKU Management and free scanning process only. Determines the default value of the
'SKU scan toggle', which defines whether a SKU is by default issued as a whole, or only
part of a SKU is issued (entry of quantity).
- SKU: no input of
quantity after scanning a SKU number (unless scanner setting 'Focus to next
field' is enabled, then all fields are to be confirmed)
- Units: input of quantity is always required
This document provides more information on the SKU scan unit toggle.
Section: Bar code
Scanning combination
ASP and CAB. Please read
this document for more details on 'scanning combination' and 'dividing
character'.
Dividing character
ASP and CAB. Please read
this document for more details on 'scanning combination' and 'dividing
character'.
Use EAN128
ASP and CAB. When enabled,
EAN128 decoding will be started for
any scanned value. Please disable this setting when you do not use EAN128 bar codes.
You can find more information in:
how to activate EAN128 barcode scanning in WMS ASP and in
document
WMS CAB.
Focus to next field
ASP only.
Please read
this document for more information on this setting. This setting is
available in this screen from release
409, in earlier releases this was a
general
scanner setting.
Show barcode summary
Available from product update 404 (ASP and for
WMS client only). When enabled, a summary screen will show (in which you
have to press Enter or OK) after a scan, when otherwise you would have moved to
the next transaction screen immediately. This way you still have a
confirmation of what you scanned, before the next scan screen is shown. Typically,
this will be the case when you have disabled the setting 'Focus
to next field' and scanning a SKU number, or an EAN128 or HIBC bar code.
Please also see
this document for more information on this setting.
Section: warehouse
Default value
ASP and CAB.
You can configure a default warehouse for free production issues, and use it in
combination with the setting 'Display which value'.
Display which value?
ASP and CAB.
This setting determines if and how the 'warehouse' field on the scanner will be
prefilled in free production issues. The setting offers following choices:
- Default value: prefills 'warehouse' with
the value configured in setting 'Default value', and allows to change this
on the scanner
- Never: prefills 'warehouse' with the value
configured in setting 'Default value', and also skips input; so changing the
warehouse is not possible
- Empty: never prefills a value, the
warehouse code always has to be scanned or entered
Section: Location
Default value
You can define a default location for production issues. Since you could use
any warehouse on the scanner,
there is no validation of the entered location in this screen.
To apply a default issue location, the setting 'Location/Display which value'
will have to be configured to 'Default value' or to 'Never'.
Display which value?
Determines how to prefill the 'location' field in
the material issuing process (guided or free), with following options:
- Default value: prefills the
'default value' (see previous setting) and you are still able to change and scan the location on
the hand terminal (ASP and CAB)
- Never: prefills the 'default value' and
also skips input of the location on the hand terminal. You can only receive
on this specific location (ASP and CAB, in CAB the location is also not
visible)
- Empty: the location field on the hand
terminal is always empty and has to be scanned (ASP and CAB)
- Advice: prefills the location with either
the location as advised in the picking advice (guided issues), or else the main location
of the item (in free issues, or when not using 'picking advice' for guided
issues). You are still able to change and scan the
location on the hand terminal (ASP only, available since 406)
When working with guided material issues, use either option 'Advice'
(then order picker can press Enter on prefilled location instead of scanning the
location), or 'Empty' (then order picker has to scan or enter the location).
Section: item
Fill item code
Guided issues,
ASP and CAB. When enabled, the advised item code is
prefilled in the item code scan field. The order picker can just press ENTER and
does not have to scan the item. When disabled, the item code scan field is empty
and has to be scanned or entered.
When the setting 'Serial/batch number'/'Display which value' is configured to
'Advice', then 'Fill item code' has to be enabled. This is because when the S/B
number is prefilled, the S/B number is also validated - and 'item code' is part
of the unique key of a S/B number and has to be prefilled for that. If you have
S/B number configured to be prefilled with 'Advice' but 'Fill item code'
disabled, an error message will show while trying to save these settings (from
release 414): "The
combination of prefilling serial/batch number with advice and not prefilling
item code is not supported".
Section: Serial/batch number
Default value
CAB guided issues only. You can configure a default serial-/batch number to
be prefilled when scanning guided material issues.
Display which value?
Determines whether the serial/batch number scan field will be prefilled in
guided material issues, with following choices:
-
Default value: prefills the default value
configured for 'Serial/batch number' (CAB only)
-
Never: this setting is not applied
anymore in ASP or CAB. When chosen, it is interpreted as 'Default value'
(CAB).
-
Empty: the serial/batch scan field is not
prefilled and has to be scanned (ASP and CAB)
-
Advice: the serial/batch scan field is
prefilled with the advised S/B number and can still be changed (ASP and CAB)
When this setting is configured to
'Advice', then the setting 'Fill item code' has to be enabled. This is because
when the S/B number is prefilled, the S/B number is also validated - and 'item
code' is part of the unique key of a S/B number and has to be prefilled for
that. If you have S/B number configured to be prefilled with 'Advice' but 'Fill
item code' disabled, an error message will show while trying to save these
settings (from release 414): "The
combination of prefilling serial/batch number with advice and not prefilling
item code is not supported".
Section: Quantity
Default quantity
ASP and CAB. You can define a default quantity to be prefilled on the hand
terminal in material issues. To be combined with setting 'Display which value'.
Prefills the quantity field on the hand terminal with this value,
when the quantity is not prefilled from a scan like an EAN128 bar code. The
default value is 0.
Minimum quantity
ASP and CAB. This setting determines the minimum quantity allowed to enter on
the hand terminal. This setting is intended to avoid errors on the hand
terminal, like scanning the item code or an EAN128 bar code in the quantity
field.
Maximum quantity
ASP and CAB. This setting determines the maximum quantity allowed to enter on
the hand terminal. This setting is intended to avoid errors on the hand
terminal.
Display which value
ASP and CAB. Determines how the 'quantity'
field will be prefilled:
-
Default value: prefills the quantity
configured as 'Default quantity', when the quantity is not prefilled from a
scan like an EAN128 barcode or a SKU number (ASP free and guided issues, CAB
guided issues).
-
Never: this setting
option is not applied anymore. Instead 'default value' is applied when this
option is active.
-
Empty: prefills the
quantity field with zero (0), the order picker must enter the quantity. The
quantity will be prefilled from a barcode like EAN128.
-
Advice: prefills the quantity with the advised
quantity (ASP, from release 411). See
this document for more details.
Pivot point quantity
ASP can CAB, guided material issues. This setting is applied for standard- and
batch items. Allows you to scan just the item code (and S/B) and skip entry of
quantity. For more details on pivot point, please refer to
this document.
Section: Active sync
These settings only apply when using the E-WMS
CAB client without RF, so when you have to connect to a PC (cradle) to
communicate with an E-WMS Control Center. In those cases it may not always be
possible or desired to have item master data available on the hand terminal.
Serial/batch
This setting determines how to handle input of
a serial/batch number in general. When validation of item codes was disabled and there is no item master data on the hand
terminal, it can not be determined if an item is a serial/batch item or
not. Using this setting, you can still configure if you want to enter
serial/batch number for material issues, using following choices:
- Normal (default value): serial/batch number entry is disabled (you never scan serial/batch items)
- Serial: assumes you are always issue serial number items (entry of serial number per single unit, but can be left empty)
- Batch: assumes you are always issue batch items (entry of batch number, but can be left empty)
Validate item code
This setting determines if you want to validate a
scanned item code (or scan code) during the scan, or only after reading back.
When disabled, any item code (not: scan codes) can be scanned during the
scan
(existing or not), this also means you do not have to export item master data to
the hand terminals. After reading back, the item code is still
validated -but scan codes are not converted to item codes.
When enabled, the scanned item code or scan code is validated on the hand
terminal, using the master data previously exported to the hand terminal (menu
WMS, Send, Send item data).
Browse items
This setting determines if the warehouse employee is
able to browse in item master data, thus able to select an item from the list,
instead of scanning an item code.
